Kohl Kesner

“Don’t look back.”

Responsibilities

Kohl’s title may read “carpenter” but he thinks of what he does at STRITE in a far broader sense. Like most of our in-house production team, his functional duties vary by the project, and often by the day. Included in his expanding skill set is framing, construction of residential additions, demolition, and increasing amounts of finish carpentry work. It’s the kind of mixed bag that is unique to the remodeling business.

Background

Born and raised in Boise, at a young age he found his love for snowboarding and baseball, the combination of outdoor recreation and athleticism was a perfect match. He played various sports throughout his youth and went on to play varsity baseball for Borah High School before graduating in 2002. After a brief stint at Central Oregon Community College, he returned to Boise, where he eventually devoted himself to yet another outdoor activity: firefighting. He spent three years battling blazes, and in 2014 found himself and his crew being helicoptered into a wildfire that became known as the Bull Creek Fire. Although he loved having the forest as his office, the time away from his family was too hard. It just so happened that Kohl’s wife had been working for STRITE as an administrative assistant, and it didn’t take much for her to convince her husband that a career in remodeling could combine his over of being outside with his love of physical challenge.

Why my job matters

“We fix existing problems with homes, using quality products that fit our clients’ needs, while providing safer more efficient living spaces.”

When not working

Given his background, it should come as no surprise that the Kesner family’s favorite pastimes involve the outdoors. Kohl, his wife, and daughter Mya enjoy camping, hiking, and road trips to the beach.
